The Story

The story of Arandas, is that of a narrow escape from a cruel fate, imposed by the exploitative captive big cat breeding and wildlife poaching industry, that feeds into the cruel and criminal underworld of trading on big cats and their parts.

Muhawish, and his sisters Amra and Khawla, were born in 2009 and were confiscated by the Jordanian customs department and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature Jordan, whilst being smuggled across the border in February 2010. It is believed that they were being transported from Syria to Saudi Arabia, through Jordan. The cubs were packed in a small cat kennel and were very wild when they arrived at the New Hope Centre, established by the Princess Alia Foundation in January 2010 with the assistance of FOUR PAWS International.

In April of the same year and accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Alia of Jordan, the young cubs took their first tentative steps into their new home at LIONSROCK. FOUR PAWS is campaigning for a total ban on the trade in big cats and their parts, as well as the cruel canned hunting practices.
