The Story
Malika represents an important part of the history of LIONSROCK and its transition from a canned hunting, captive breeding establishment to a safe enclave for big cats and other animals. Malika is a member of the lovely six sisters, a pride that comes from a bigger pride of 14 that originally consisted of two males and 12 females. They were born from different litters in 2006, separated from their mother, and hand-reared by the previous owner for cub petting before FOUR PAWS took over the establishment.
Her story is one of many that exposes the cruelty of captive breeding and cub petting practices that many tourists unwittingly support. By cuddling cubs, walking, and taking photos with them, many tourists are unaware that they are supporting a horrific industry. When FOUR PAWS stepped in and acquired all the animals that were here and gave them the care they were meant to have, the cycle of abuse finally ended for Malika.
Like so many others she was saved from the cruel fate of trigger-happy trophy hunters. Malika is now a laid-back lioness who doesn’t seem to have a care in the world about what’s going on around her. Our demure Malika seems content and happy to just watch her sisters. This is a far cry from the horrific past and fate from which she was saved.
