The Story
Siberian tiger Rafik was born on the 13th of July 2009, in a little town of Nieberkoop, Netherlands.
He was part of a trio of extraordinary siblings, which also included his brother Mirza and sister Zita, amidst the lush surroundings of FELIDA. Their “accidental” conception was the outcome of a timing misjudgement in the separation of their parents, Juno and Cromwell. At the time, the policy dictated that animals should not be neutered unless considered necessary, as it could potentially alter their natural behaviours. Instead, the standard practice was to separate the animals when the female was in heat, to prevent unplanned offspring.
The trio grew into enormous yet friendly tigers. A new journey began for them in May 2015 to LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary, which became their haven, nestled in the breathtaking landscape.
The triplets, affectionately known as the "funny trio," found a new home in this sanctuary, where they live freely and experience the splendours of the wild. Distinct roles emerged among the trio, adding depth to their collective personality. Rafik, a confident male, assumed the role of the group's leader but with a surprising sense of diplomacy. Mirza, on the other hand, stands out for his intelligence and calm demeanour while spirited Zita, as the only female in the group learned to master the art of playfully teasing and 'annoying' her brothers before swiftly evading their pursuit. All three of live harmoniously, love enrichment and continue thriving in their species-appropriate tranquil home at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary, befitting their regal lineage.
