The Story

Samson was born in 2016 at Seaview Predator Park in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He was rescued by LIONSROCK in 2021, when the park closed permanently, and the owners decided to surrender him and his uncle Tom to LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary.

Animals, like Samson, are often used in tourist attractions practices, such as cub petting, walk-with opportunities, or for viewing purposes. They end up in the inhumane trophy hunting industry and killed for their bones and other body parts.

Now Samson is safe and thriving at LIONSROCK in his species-appropriate habitat. Even though captive environments cannot accommodate all of the complexities of a natural environment, LIONSROCK strives to provide the best possible environment for Samson and our other big cats so that they can thrive and live their best quality life, given their circumstances.
